Samantha & Sugar becoming new friends.
Learning to work as a Team!
Sugar meeting her new pasture-mate, Dually… they romped gleefully in the pasture as soon as they met!
Sugar
Sugar is a sweet 31 year old mini-horse who came to us as the first horse my niece would learn to bond with. Sugar was small and so was my niece so riding Sugar was a beautiful learning experience for Samantha. Though in the riding, I taught my niece to connect with her soulfully and understand when she didn’t prefer to be ridden that we would create a new, and even deeper relationship with Sugar in new ways.
Since Sugar was a gentle soul, she had many times carried children on her back, teaching them the feel of connecting with a horse in saddle. Now, because of her age and body needs, Sugar is a supreme teacher to not only children, but adults alike in the development of relationship one can have with a horse on the ground… walking, grooming, feeding, etc. Feeling a horse relax in gratitude under a a gentle brush, seeing them happily walk with a child and watching them feel their own purpose and have gratitude for friendly interactions exemplifies the magic of connection.
Sugar told me a while ago that she was enjoyed when children came to visit her. She missed her job with kids and felt purpose again when she could connect to a child and help them see the magic of who she is. My desire is to help people see the way animals can enjoy the human-animal bond when they are not exploited as tool, treated with respect and shown kindness all the days of their lives.
